pre-season
2 practices/week and Open Mat Sundays
Get a head start before the school season begins! This session focuses on conditioning, strength, and agility to prepare wrestlers for the demands of the season. Open to middle and high school wrestlers who want to build endurance, sharpen technique, and enter the season ready to compete.
beginner
2 practices/week
Perfect for new wrestlers, especially ages 4–9 or those with very limited experience. Wrestlers will learn the basics of stance, movement, and fundamental techniques in a fun, supportive environment. The focus is on building confidence, coordination, and a love for the sport.
advanced
2 practices/week & Open Mat Sundays
Designed for experienced wrestlers, generally ages 10 and up, including middle and high school athletes. This class emphasizes advanced technique, live wrestling, and competitive strategy, while continuing to build strength and conditioning. Wrestlers should have a solid foundation and be ready for a faster-paced, more intensive practice.
affordable & flexible for every family
Our goal is to keep costs low and accessible while covering the basics like practice space, equipment, and insurance. We want to keep the club running strong for every wrestler.
We also offer scholarships and flexible options, because we never want money to be the reason a child can't wrestle. Our nonprofit organization fundraises to help cover the cost for families when they need it.
Coach peal
For us, wrestling has always been about more than the sport itself. Our mentor and founder, Jeff Peal, was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and poured his faith into the way he coached and cared for others. He taught us that building character, discipline, and community were just as important as winning matches. Though Jeff passed away in 2021, the foundation he built and the values he lived by continue to guide us in every practice and in every young wrestler we serve.
Proverbs 27:17 - "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Staff

Head Coach
Kehly Roberts is the head coach of Atlas Wrestling, where he has led the program since 2017 after being entrusted with the role by his longtime mentor, Coach Peal. Kehly began wrestling freestyle in first grade, following in the footsteps of his older brothers who also wrestled under Coach Peal. A two-time state champion, Kehly finished his high school career with an impressive 134-12 record before continuing his wrestling journey at Appalachian State University. For 5 years he was also an NCHSAA Official for high school and middle school wrestling. Today, he brings his passion and experience to the next generation of wrestlers- including his own son and daughter, who both compete for Atlas.

Assistant Coach
Jamie was introduced to wrestling by his older brother and competed at North Stanly High School, graduating in 2006. After helping coach at North Stanly he moved to Wilkes County, and now enjoys seeing young athletes grow through the sport. Jamie believes wrestling builds character, teaching kids humility, respect, determination, and sportsmanship. His son, Gunner, also wrestles with the club. Jamie has been coaching Atlas wrestlers for four years.

Assistant Coach
Cody began wrestling in elementary school and went on to have an accomplished career at the high school and collegiate level. He was a North Carolina state champion, NHSCA All-American, and Super 32 podium finisher, ending high school with an impressive 146–16 record. After wrestling at Spartanburg Methodist College, Cody found his passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes. Now, as both a coach and a wrestling dad, he loves helping kids develop the skills, discipline, and confidence that wrestling teaches—on and off the mat. This is Cody's second year coaching Atlas wrestlers.

Assistant Coach
Kirstin has been part of the wrestling world since 2011. While she wasn’t a wrestler herself, she has spent years learning the sport, supporting athletes, and stepping in at practices when needed. Behind the scenes, she keeps Atlas Wrestling running strong; helping support our families, tournaments, and the nonprofit side of the organization. Married to Head Coach Kehly, she is also a proud wrestling mom with two kids on the team. Her biggest passion is growing opportunities for girls in wrestling and showing them that this sport is for everyone.
frequently asked
Q: Who can join Atlas Wrestling?
A: Our club is open to boys and girls ages 4 through high school, no matter their skill level. Whether your child is stepping on the mat for the very first time or has years of experience, they'll find a place to learn, grow, and belong.
Q: What equipment or gear is required?
A: Wrestling shoes are important for safety and performance, but we know they can be expensive. If cost is a concern, please reach out- we often have extra pairs or can help families find affordable options. A water bottle is needed for every practice. Normal athletic attire (shorts, t-shirt, or athletic pants) is appropriate. Headgear is optional at practice but required in most tournaments.
Q: Are tournaments required?
A: Absolutely not- competing at tournaments is optional. Your child can focus on learning and enjoying wrestling at their own pace. During peak season (November-March), we coordinate with families to attend weekend tournaments together, giving wrestlers the chance to compete if and when they feel ready. Tournament fees are separate from club membership and are only required if you choose to participate.
Q: How are kids grouped during practice?
A: We group wrestlers by weight and skill level to keep practices safe and fun. Beginners are 3 years of wrestling experience or less; advanced is 4+ years. Middle and high school wrestlers are usually considered advanced. Coaches adjust as needed to make sure every wrestler is learning, improving, and matched appropriately.
Q: Is wrestling safe?
A: Yes! Safety is a top priority at our club. Coaches are trained to teach proper techniques, supervise practice closely, and make sure every wrestler trains in a safe environment. Injuries can happen in any sport, but our structured practices and experienced coaches work to keep wrestling safe while still being fun and challenging.
Q: Can parents watch practices?
A: Our room is not big enough for spectators but we have a live stream option to watch practices from the lobby.
Q: Do wrestlers need to cut weight?
A: No- our club does not make wrestlers cut weight. We focus on healthy growth, proper nutrition, and skill development.
